Title: Outer Space Vocabulary

Subject: Science/Literacy

Grade Level: 6th grade (can be adapted for other grade levels)

Integration of Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to create a booklet on an Outer Space subtopic with definitions, pictures, and examples in groups.

Standards: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the impact of a specific word choice on meaning and tone.

On one side, they will record facts from the video. On the other half, they will write down questions they have about the solar system that they would like to learn more about. Students will raise their hands to share their notes to the class.

Procedures
  • Students will break into small predetermined groups of 4 or 5. They will select a topic about outer space from a list. They will conduct research and become experts on the topic that they chose. Every group must have a different topic.
    • Possible topics include: planets, moon phases, stars, space travel, astronomy, orbits, etc.
